Yellow Tape

You’re loaded up with addictions
Like a concealed handgun
Filled with 50 caliber bullets
Each time you indulge
Another shot fires through your tattered soul
Fragmented hollow points
Blasting holes into your being
Allowing all of the precious light inside of you
To seep and gush
Through the barrage of puncture wounds
Draining you of all your goodness
Your hopes and dreams
Becoming little more than puddles
Of regrets left spattered on the floor
Your life story develops into a crime scene
Enveloped in yellow tape
That begs for caution
As everyone you know politely watches
From the perimeter
Dawning looks of pity and disappointment
Empty promises of cease fires
Broken daily to yourself
As the war inside rages on and on…
A chemical warfare terrorizing
Three distinct battle fronts
Physical/Mental/Spiritual
Endless trenches dug into the mind
Drastically altering the terrain
It’ll take years to fill the empty spaces
And pick up the remains from all this
Carnage
Brain cells drop like black flies
As neurons rapid fire just as automatic weapons unleash their fury
Destroying all remnants of the person you used to be
Your soul, a lost soldier
Wounded and broken
Desperately waiting for the news that he can return home
A home that felt broken before you knew what broken truly meant
What was once empty
Can now only be filled
By love
When ego has finally burnt itself out
With no addiction left to feed on
The soul becomes free to heal and embrace life again
Pure and new
Reformed from the fire and ashes
When all else has been burned and stripped away
Only Love remains
